"Teach him if you can the wonders of books, but also give time to ponder the extreme mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun and flowers on a green hill. Teach him to have faith in his own ideas, even if every one tell him they are wrong.
Try to give my son the strength not to follow the crowd when everyone else is doing it. Teach him to listen to every one, but teach him also to filter all that he hears on a screen of truth and take only the good that comes through".
-Abraham Lincoln (Excerpts from his letter to his son's Teacher).
There is a certain flood of bandwagonism that predominates socio-political debate in this clime. There is pervasive partisanship that excuses just about every error and and misstep of Govt. And there is an air of cynicism and sarcasm fueled by the policy flip flop of leadership. The times are curious, and the discerning MUST speak up and speak out Now.
Under a Govt that mouths anti-corruption as the linch pin of its programmatic, the ES of Financial Reporting Council Jim Obazee was sacked for implementing a law on Good Governance meant to ensure transparency and decorum in the running of NGOs and all Non-profit organizations, whilst the secretary to the Federal Govt Babachir Lawal who has been indicted by the senate for corruption, and on whose head various allegations of malfeasance devolve, remains in office.
Strange, one gets an immediate sack for implementing the Law, the other appears untouchable. Partisans are justifying the sack of Jim Obazee using the religion card and the fact that he was appointed by the GEJ/PDP Govt, of what is an effort to enhance transparency and due process in the running of NGOs and non-profits? And why does PMB's Govt blame the PDP with PDP appointees still serving as DGs, EDs, ESs etal 18months on? WHY?
