PRIVATIZATION SHOULD BE PART OF ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATIONS IN NIGERIA

Nigeria Government should educate and enlighten the Labour Union Leaders on the medium and long term benefits of privatization and concessioning of government owned businesses in Nigeria.
If done transparently, the benefit include improved management and operation efficiency, job creations, measurable contribution to GDP growth and an avenue to reduce corruption among political office holders etc.

The same NLC were against deregulation of the government solely owned and solely operated telecom sector in 2001.  15 years after, they only can see the GDP contribution of privately Telecom Sector to Nigeria- GDP and the statistics showing the  numbers of Nigerians employed in the telecom industries are in the public domains.

The same NLC were totally against the sales of NNPC oil refineries to private sectors under OBJ led FG.  Almost 10 years after the reversal of the sales of the refinerier by late president Yar'Adua, the NNPC oil refineries remain semi-moribound with their production capacities ranging from zero to 20% refining capacities.

Kudo, to private investors that took the bold steps to start their own major and modular oil refineries from the scratch while the govt owned oil refineries remain semi-moribound for decades counting.........

A typical Nigerian must begin to have a change of mindset from the non-working old mentality that government must build businesses, own businesses, operate businesses, regulate businesses, which has led to the government officials ruined businesses.

Pure and simple; "Govt is an enabled of businesses.  Govt cannot be operator and regulatory of businesses simultaneously and we expect efficiency, service delivery, probity and transparency.

Majority of businesses ran and ruined by govt, are NEVER profitable.  The more businesses we take away from govt ownership, the lesser the corruption avenue for political office holders.

Labour Union Leaders can also disagree with this.

RPI....................Mission Rekindled.
