The crime budget padding by a Nigerian Legislative body,frighteningly steep increases in annual spending, with those added figures going into the private pocket of principal officers is not committed by the Green Chamber (House of Reps) alone, the Upper Chamber (Senate), without exemption of State Assemblies who are also notorious in the act.
Consistent demand for financial report and tracking of constituency project acclaimed to be carried out by Legislators by both Civil Society Organisations and well meaning citizens is key to eliminate corruption of budget padding. Shame on Senator Danjuma Goje for allowing Senator Saraki use the budget to buy loyalty by letting Senators get constituency project as high as N2b each. Led by Senator Goje, one of his allies and loyalist.
He was deliberately absent from the Senate when members knew he lied about the budget. The main reason most of the Senators supported Saraki is patronage. The Appropriation Committee jerked up the oil price benchmark to enable them add their projects. Saraki gave most Committee chairmen at the senate N250m plus N1.7b in " special project" in the budget.
This is another chapter of shame and incompetence. First they forge standing rules. Now, they are on budget. Enough is Enough!!! This must stop, this will stop.
