'FROM NIGERIA WE HAIL THEE TO ARISE O COMPATRIOT'

In 1978, Nigeria under General  Olusegun Obasanjo introduced a new national anthem, we went from 'Nigeria we hail thee ' to'. Arise O Compatriot'. Students and workers used to relish singing our own dear native land.
There was relative peace in the land. Our flag was indeed a symbol that truth and justice reigned. There was no massive corruption.  Our tribes and tongues differed but we still relatively stood in brotherhood.

We could afford decent lives then with little money. We  had committees and selfless leaders who were cultural lcons and role model for the teens.  The primary concern of parents then was the upbringing and wellbeing of their kids.

Where has that Nigeria gone? Our leaders no longer serve our fatherland but only their pockets.  They have made the labours of Nnamdi Azikwe, Obafemi Awolowo, non-profit organizations, schools or private organizations.

Youth empowerment is different from youth development is centered on developing individuals, while empowerment is focused on creating greater community change that relies on the development of individual capacity.

Empowerment movements, including youth empower, originate, gain momentum, become viable, and become institutionalized.

Youth empowerment is often addressed as a gateway to intergenerational equity, Civic engagement, and democracy building.

Our Nigerian youth must be empowered for Nigeria to grow and become created.
